Challenge Rules & Process

How Weight Wagers challenges work: joining, Apple Health tracking, baselines, verification, prizes and forfeits.

Last updated: October 19, 2026

Weight Wagers is a skill-based platform: your effort decides the outcome, not chance. The rules below apply to every challenge. Each challenge also sets its own goal, dates and entry fee, which are shown in the app before you join.

Who runs these challenges

Weight Wagers sponsors and administers every challenge offered through the app. Apple Inc. is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in any way with, any challenge or prize.

1. Joining a challenge

  • You must be 18 or older and located in a state where Weight Wagers operates. Eligibility is covered in the Terms of Service.

  • Free challenges have no entry fee and no cash prize. They are for building a streak and proving your goal.

  • Paid challenges have an entry fee. The fee is your stake: it is charged when you join, and you forfeit it if you miss your goal.

  • Registration closes before a challenge is under way. For weight challenges, it closes when the challenge's baseline check-in window ends. For steps challenges, it closes 14 days after the start date. After that, new entries are not accepted.

  • Once a challenge has started you cannot cancel or switch challenges. See the Refund Policy.

2. How progress is measured

  • Your weight comes only from Apple Health, recorded by a connected scale or another device that writes to Health. Weights typed by hand, in the app or in the Health app, do not count.

  • Steps come from Apple Health as well.

  • Weight Wagers reads your Health data when you open the app. Keep Apple Health connected and open the app regularly so your progress stays current.

  • For weight-based challenges, weigh in at least three times per week. Weeks with fewer than three weigh-ins may not count toward your progress.

3. Rolling challenges and your baseline

  • A rolling challenge starts from a baseline: your most recent scale weigh-in in Apple Health when you join.

  • The baseline must be recent (within the last 3 days) and you confirm it before it is locked in.

  • If Apple Health has no recent scale weigh-in, you cannot join a paid rolling challenge until you weigh in. Nothing is charged until a baseline is available.

  • Your baseline cannot be changed after it is confirmed.

4. Verification

  • Before any prize is paid, results are verified against your Apple Health data and may require a photo or video check as described in the app.

  • Entries that cannot be verified are not eligible for a prize.

5. Winning, prizes and forfeits

  • Reach your verified goal by the end date and you win a share of that challenge's prize pool, funded by Weight Wagers. Weight Wagers sets each paid challenge's prize pool by its start date, and everyone who hits the goal splits it. Prizes are never paid out of other participants' entry fees.

  • Steps challenges are scored as your average daily steps over the challenge, divided by the challenge's daily goal. Everyone whose average is at or above 100% of the goal shares that challenge's prize pool, funded by Weight Wagers, in equal parts. The pool is shown in the app by the start date.

  • Miss your goal and you forfeit your entry fee.

  • The prize pool for each challenge is shown in the app once Weight Wagers sets it, no later than the start date.

  • Winnings are paid to the PayPal account you set up in Profile.

Partner prizes. A partner such as a gym may offer its own additional prize, for example a membership, to the participant with the most total steps in the final standings. A partner prize is funded and fulfilled by the partner, is separate from the Weight Wagers cash prize pool, and is described on the partner's poster or materials. If participants tie for the most total steps, they split the partner prize, or the partner decides, as stated on the poster.

6. Fair play

  • One account per person, and only your own Health data.

  • Attempts to alter or fake Health data, or to enter on someone else's behalf, are covered by the Terms of Service and make an entry ineligible for a prize.
